Happy Holidays & a Festivus Miracle with “Celebrate Vegan”
Greetings, everyone and best wishes for a very happy holiday season! We had a nice party today with my family and nommed on some vegan cashew cheese, and roasted red pepper hummus, winter stew, mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy, roasted sweet potato soup, ginger bread cookies, and some awesome fudge my sister-in-law made from the PETA cookbook!
Keeping in mind the various holiday celebrations, I wanted to give a shout-out to Celebrate Vegan by Dynise Balcavage for including a chapter of recipes for Festivus! Festivus for the rest of us, even vegans! How cool is that?
Sunnie and I were recipe testers for the cookbook, and you may recall when we told you how incredibly awesome the boughasha we made were. She is creative with her menus, for example, for tonight (Christmas Eve) she offers a “feast of the seven grains” menu, complete with brown rice maki!
Again, happy holidays and best wishes for the new year!

Happy Holidays, Sunnie and Bill! This looks like a great book. I love the idea of the “feast of the seven grains.” Is it a take-off on the Italian American “seven fishes” Christmas Eve dinner? My family (half-Italian) never did that, but we do have our celebration on Xmas Eve. This year we had some vegan crab cakes as a nod to the Italian tradition. Well, I say “we,” but I’m the only one who ate them. They were delicious! I don’t think you’re so much into meat analogues, but if you have Match (brand name) in Indy, you might give it a try. Vegan seafood is pretty rare, in my experience.
Happy New Year!
Lu!
I’m sure it is since its her Christmas eve menu!
So great to hear from you. Hope all is well and that you are having a great holiday season.
