Famous Visitors to South Korea & Dr. Melanie Joy’s Presentation

It looks like South Korea has a couple of famous visitors this week!

Reese Witherspoon visited Korea for her new movie, and she went to our favorite place – Insadong! She went to the vegan Buddhist temple food restaurant in Insadong we blogged about too – Sanchon! :) This article shows pictures of her having fun in Insadong, seriously…. we love Insadong!!

Jamie Oliver is currently also visiting Seoul, he just today tweeted a picture of eating Korean royal cuisine. He also tweeted a super cute picture of him and young Korean chefs. The little boy hugging Jamie Oliver is just too cute. Although Jamie really has the right vision for cooking and eating healthy and locally, I wish he would take a step further to look at the  factory farming system and all the invisible victims (including humans, animals and mother earth) due to the system.

On another more serious note, we wanted to share Dr. Melanie Joy’s presentation at the McDougall advanced learning program.

“Carnism: The Psychology of Eating Meat”
The McDougall Advanced Study Weekend, February 2012.

Melanie Joy has always impressed me with her speeches – the clarity of her argument and the reasonable, warm, and non-threatening tone of her talks are always loaded with compelling, thoughtful things to think about. She always has intriguing quotes and visuals to share as well.

It’s an hour long, but you’ll find that time flies with her talking – it’s very easy to listen to. Hope you find some time to enjoy it like I did. Hopefully it will help us all to be motivated to become more active in strengthening the vegan movement, like she talks about!

I feel the same way about Jamie Oliver. He’s so interested and compassionate about a lot of things. Maybe one day, we can hope!
