President Obama has mentioned South Korea several times as an example of a nation with a strong educational system. A strong reason for this is that Korea’s take education very seriously. In one article I’ve read, they estimate that most Korean families spend 30% of their income on additional tutoring and educational resources for their children. Sunnie often started high school at 8am, only to go study halls after school and arrive back home at 10pm. All of this work is for the students to prepare for their college scholastic ability test that determines which colleges, if any, they can apply to. The annual test was this week, and the day of the test for the seniors is a huge day where everyone turns out to cheer on the students.
