Hyori’s Campaign for Abandoned Animals

Soonshim, the dog Hyori adopted from the shelter. They say that Soonshim won't ever let Hyori out of her sight.

Today, our awesome Lee Hyori has put out a single with Lucid Fall to raise money for a shelter for abandoned animals! You can see her notes/thoughts about working on the song with Lucid Fall on her blog for abandoned animals. Lucid fall wrote the song after receiving a text message from Hyori, who had volunteered at a shelter for abounded animals that day. I don’t think it’s available on iTunes yet, but hopefully it’ll become available soon, as I always struggle buying stuff on Korean websites due to firewalls and software problems.

We blogged about how awesome Hyori is, and how her awesomeness is only increasing, but we haven’t blogged about Lucid Fall yet. He is an amazing singer-songwriter; his songs are so beautiful and sensitive, and you find a lot of reflection on life & truth in them.

Another thing that I think is very interesting is that he holds a PhD in bioengineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland, one of the top research institutions/universities in the world. He completed his PhD and worked in the academic field, while also writing and performing music for years (pursuing a career of a scientist and artist at the same time, that is unusual!!!), but he recently decided to focus solely on pursuing his music career.

His songs have a unique quality; most are beautiful and have a hint of sadness in them. He definitely has a gift for looking at everyday things with a new perspective and capturing the essence of whatever he’s writing about. And in some of his song lyrics (like “Mackerel”), you can see how he thinks about animal issues, and he writes about them so beautifully.

So this is the song Lucid Fall wrote and Hyori sings: “Please stay behind.” Just so beautiful and sad… it made me cry for a little while.

Ah, I saw the cover for the single yesterday and I wondered if the song had anything to do with animals. Nice to see that she’s raising money for a good cause, I knew I liked her for a reason. 🙂
